What does it mean?

The Babes Papanicolau test (PAP test - Babeş-Papanicolau cervico-vaginal cytology) is a microscopic morphological examination of a cell smear obtained from the cervix. The purpose of this test is the possible detection of abnormal (atypical) cells that occur in precancerous lesions.

Why the PAPANICOLAU test in a liquid medium?

Liquid PAP or Liquid Cytology (LBC) is a new technique for collecting cytological samples to detect cervical cancer.

The liquid PAP test uses the liquid medium technique. This type of test - compared to the classic PAP test - offers better standardization and quality of processing and a facilitation and increase of quality and detail of interpretation.

Why is it done?

Cervical cancer has become the leading cause of death in young women aged 15-45. The appearance of the disease is preceded by precancerous lesions, which can be detected in time by the Babeş - Papanicolaou test.

Who and when is recommended to take a Babeș - Papanicolau test?

Women who have started their sexual life should perform this test regularly. Studies show that the PAP test performed annually helps to detect lesions and the rapid reaction to their occurrence.

In special cases, depending on the physiological and medical status, this interval must be determined by the gynecologist.

How do you prepare?

24-48 hours before the sample is recommended, the patient should avoid: sexual intercourse, vaginal lavage, other intravaginal treatments (gels, creams, contraceptives, disinfectants, lubricants) or other intravaginal maneuvers (intravaginal tampons, vaginal examination).

ATTENTION: It is recommended to harvest outside the menstrual period, in the middle period of the menstrual cycle, and in case of infections, after their treatment.

Interpretation of results: For interpretation it is necessary to consult a gynecologist.

The test result should be interpreted by correlating it with the patient's clinical data as well as other investigations performed.

Thus, depending on the suspicion raised after the test, by integrating it into the clinical context by the gynecologist, recommendations can be made regarding the therapeutic and diagnostic conduct to be followed.

The PAP package in the liquid environment from Agatha Labs also includes the gynecological consultation with a specialist doctor, performed in the chosen clinic (depending on the availability and schedule of the doctors of the chosen day).
