What does it mean?

The SARS-COV-2 neutralizing antibody test is a serological test that detects COVID-19 antibodies in blood samples. They are detected and the level of immunoglobulin G (IgG) type S (anti-protein Spike) antibodies - antibodies produced by the human body in response to COVID 19 (SARS-CoV-2 infection) or produced in response to at COVID vaccination 19.

The test detects the body's immune response:

- SARS-CoV-2 infection (passing through the disease);

- for vaccination against COVID 19.

The test will confirm not only the presence of antibodies, but also their level in the body, their amount (antibody titer) at the time of testing.

The sensitivity (accuracy) of this test method is over 97% and the specificity is 98%.

The SARS-CoV-2 virus is an RNA-like virus that has several proteins in its structure, with the help of which the virus manages to attach to cells in the human body, to enter them and to replicate, to multiply. The proteins that form the outer shell of the new coronavirus are protein S (S comes from Spike, the characteristic appearance, with "spikes" of the virus). Antibodies that prevent the virus from infecting the human cell are called neutralizing antibodies (they block the entry into human cells, effectively neutralizing the virus).

The test detects the presence and measures the amount of anti-Spike IgG antibodies - specific to the new coronavirus, using the chemiluminescence method, a method with superior performance to immunoenzymatic methods.

Who and when is recommended to take the COVID 19 antibody test?

The test is recommended for all those who want to check the presence and amount of antibodies in the body after vaccination or after infection with the new Coronavirus.

Usually, although there are individual variations on a case-by-case basis, the standard time for antibody development is 5-21 days after the onset of symptoms (on passing through the disease) or about 7 days after the second booster, in the case of vaccination.

The test measures the level of neutralizing antibodies, antibodies that have the ability to block the attachment of the SARS-CoV-2 virus to human cells.

The test determines who is protected and:

- could travel without restrictions;

- may become a donor of immunized plasma;

- it can be safe and scientifically proven to have a sufficient and active amount of antibodies that are effective in neutralizing Sars Cov 2 and thus preventing COVID infection and disease19.

How do you prepare?

The test does not require prior patient preparation. The sample will be taken from the blood.

Interpretation of results

The results are expressed as an index. The reference values and the interpretation of the results can be found in the test detail.

The test results are expressed quantitatively, reflecting the amount of neutralizing antibodies present. The unit of measurement is AU / ml. Depending on the predetermined cut-off values of the test, and the measured values (the amount of antibodies detected - antibody TITLE) you will know if you are considered protected (if you can donate plasma and travel without worries). The titer is a value that correlates with the amount of antibodies that form in the body.

Release of the result

The result is released between 48 and 72 hours after the test (online, by e-mail or with pick-up from the clinic).
